Okay, clever boys and girls. I am going to design and build a console for a car that I plan on selling. I want to know what size of cups or drinks you most frequently carry in your car’s cup holder.

Example: 40 oz Big Gulp; 12 oz Red Bull; 16 oz Amp; 12 oz MacDonald’s Coffee. And so on.

Particularly, please reply if you are a Panther fan...

Thank you!

Since most cups now are designed around a “16 oz base” the size should be pretty easy, the tricky part comes with making sure there is enough distance at the tops to not crowd one another...so bore center spacing basically. Also, if you stagger the depth of the cup holders you can effectively lessen the bore center spacing issue.

I need a cup holder for my energy drinks; the way to small can and the way to big can!

Is the 16-oz base a standard in a certain industry?

here is a good example of what I mean

I think that the size of the base was kinda/sorta about the same in most cars and so cup manufactures built around that so that the base stays the same but the cup tappers up top.

Mostly a coffee mug. Since every one of my mugs is a different size without being a different volume, it doesn’t help much. Though each of my cars has different cupholders, I ended up having a mug that fits each ok, and basically have a mug I use only when I use that car. One of my vehicles has holders too small for a mug, or at least the rest of the center stack/climate controls gets in the way, so I have to put it in crocked and keep my hand on it around turns. Make sure there’s enough room around the top.

Came here for cup sizes, was not disappointed. :)

Hammerhead has it right. If also say make sure it has plenty of support so if you hit a hard bump or take a fast curve that the drinks won't eject.

For me, it has to fit a Purist waterbottle.

If it keeps a 16-oz plastic iced beverage cup (e.g. Starbucks grande or equivalent) reasonably snug, then it works for me.

For me a cupholder must be able to handle an Arizona can

Good thought; thank you. Cups like that Wendy’s cup are really stupid. “Skip the drink, thank you.”

Right. And easy to clean out, and not positioned so that it empties into the stereo.

Honestly, I find the dual cupholders in my Mustang work well in almost any situation. First of all, they are molded in to the plastic for ultimate confidence (no flimsy plastic extending arms here!) The smaller one toward the front is perfect for a 12 oz can and snugly grips a 20 oz soda, while the larger one to the rear easily accommodates your typical large fast food joint drink, with space cut out between them for a coffee mug handle. They’re great.

Well, then, what you both said. Actually, there was another post about a triple-threat cup holder in a Mustang that really covers it.

Minimum diameter would be an Arizona tea can.

Pretty much the only time I need a cup holder is when the wife and I go to sonic. We never order any of their food, only their drinks. All they cups, including the monster rt.44 fit in a standard cup holder.

To your rationalization: I understand what irony is. Irony doesn't excuse a sexist joke.
